The Connacht Fleadh Cheoil
2009 returns to Roscommon for the first time in 15 years and is being
hosted by Roscommon Town Branch Comhaltas from 29th June – 5th July.
This is the first time for the Provincial Fleadh to be held in Roscommon
since 1994. Thousands of competitors and their families and supporters
will flock to Roscommon Town for this brilliant festival of Irish
Traditional Music, Song and Dance with a truly Roscommon and Connacht
theme – ‘The West’s Awake’ - A Celebration of Irish Traditional Music,
Song, Dance & Culture in the Connacht Style.
Top Names in Traditional Music from all over
Ireland
will also converge on Roscommon
Town during the
Provincial Fleadh Cheoil which will undoubtedly be one of the best Festivals in Ireland in 2009.
More recently Visitors from Japan, Germany,
Belgium, France, USA, Scotland and Wales arrived in Roscommon for the 2006 and 2007 County Fleadh Cheoil which was a
resounding success and it is hoped that this can be replicated and
surpassed for the Provincial
Event.
With highlights
such as the John Wynne CD launch, traditional music and song workshops
in the Abbey and the Comhaltas Connacht 'Hall of Fame' tribute concert,
the line-up this year is action packed and has something for everybody.
